Have fun GTXers!

Fin Lawlor, the brother of one of our GTX members, is an &Beyond Ranger at Ngala Private Game Reserve and is on a run (literally!) to campaign against the poaching of Rhinos through the Footprints of Hope initiative. Come the 7th of April, Fin will brave the streets of Cape Town to take part in the well loved marathon, the Two Oceans Marathon.

Footprints of Hope

…born from a vision of creating more awareness about the plight of Africa’s endangered rhino and a pure passion to make a lasting difference within local communities, which encapsulates “Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People”. Now the initiative is growing even further with more members joining the team and doing their bit for the Rhino, communities surrounding our Reserves and Parks, as well as other extraordinary wildlife / conservation efforts.

Support Fin & Footprints of Hope

Support Fin on his Two Oceans journey to raise awareness about this important cause by donating money to the initiative, supporting him on the sidelines at the Two Oceans marathon or just spread the word.

What better way to experience the beauty of the Magliesberg than to explore the Segwati Game Ranch on an early morning trail run? Not to mention saving the rhinos while you’re about it.

Pearson & Pearson Biokinetics, are sponsoring the event with all good intentions to “give you the best outdoor adventure possible” while  donating a portion of the entry fee to an organisation dedicated to saving the eminent extinction of rhinos in our country.

Gone are the days when Joburg’s inner city is treated like the ugly stepsister to the leafy suburbs of Houghton or the suit and ties vibe of Sandton. Not only is it a place for the city’s hipsters to congregate, it seems, but it has become a weekend destination for city dwellers to explore the quirky, concrete jungle that we all love.

And now, Run Jozi. Run Jozi is part of an initiative by the much loved sports brand, Nike, that aims at inspiring the world’s runners to run through their cities. The South African leg takes place on the 21st of March and is a pretty apt way to spend our Human Rights day what with the history that the city holds and the significance of the particular holiday.

FEAT, stands for Fascinating Expedition & Adventure Talks and described as the “ultimate armchair adventure experience”, is an annual event that is due to take place at The Alexander Theatre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, on 6 October this year.

Each speaker, an extreme athlete in their personal capacities, speaks for seven minutes on a specific “expedition” that they undertook in their sport of choice.

Created by adventure racer and writer Lisa de Speville, FEAT brings South Africa’s adventurers together. “Most people would love to embark on an expedition; but most are tied to ‘real life’ so they settle for feeding this desire with organised sporting events,” she says.

“It takes a different, special kind of courage and drive to abandon socially accepted norms (day job, family, home) to set off – often solo – on self-motivated and self-organised expeditions. Whether the adventure involves oceans, countries, continents, rivers or mountains, these achievements are extraordinary. I’ve yet to meet a person who is not captivated by tales of adventure.”

The Triple Challenge is South Africa’s biggest one day multisport event combining the running, mountain biking and paddling disciplines in a 100km test of an athlete’s endurance.

There are two races to enter, the Multisport race and the MultiX race. The Multisport race starts in Pietermaritzburg with a 22km trail run, a 55km mountain biking route through the Valley of a Thousand Hills after that and  finishing off with a 20km paddling trip on the Inanda Dam. The MultiX race substitutes the paddling leg with a 6km trail run.

The idea of the Triple Challenge came from a combination of our country’s most extreme races such as the Comrades marathon, the Dusi canoe marathon and the Amashovashova cycling race. The race is currently in its tenth year of operation.
